Welcome to Frederickson Early Childhood Center, we are so glad you are here!

Frederickson ECC Family Frequently Asked Questions for New Families.

What are the center hours for Childcare?
Our center is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, year round (closed major holidays).

At what age can children start Traditional Preschool?
We begin Traditional Preschool at age three. Children must be three by September 1st, and all students must be completely potty trained.

What training are your teachers and staff required to have?

Our lead teachers are encouraged to have at least an AA. All teachers are required to have 20 hours per year of ongoing education.

What ages do you offer Childcare? If my three-year-old is in all day childcare do they get the preschool classes as well?
We have childcare classes for children who are 2-1/2 years old (and completely potty trained) through children who are 5 years old. The curriculum that is used in Traditional Preschool is also used in Childcare.

What are your class sizes and how many classes do you have?
Childcare and Preschool classroom capacity is 17-20. The teacher child ratio is 1:10.

What is a typical day like in Preschool?

The children have an opportunity to participate in outdoor, circle time, snack time, and free choice activities.

Does the center provide snacks? Childcare/Preschool?

In Childcare we provide morning and afternoon snacks, lunch and breakfast (from 7:00-7:20 a.m.).
In Traditional Preschool the children take turns bringing a healthy snack on their special helper day.

Is lunch provided? Are lunches prepared on-site?

Lunch is provided for Childcare students. It is a hot lunch program provided as a satellite kitchen of the Bethel School District.

What types of activities are available for the children? And how much “free play” time do the kids get each day?

Curricular activities and free choice activities are available for the children. Free choice time is about 20-30 minutes of the scheduled activities. Free choice activities are: intentionally placed manipulatives and activities that develop the whole child, with brain development in mind.

What is your Emergency and Inclement Weather policy? Is there a difference in closures for Childcare and Preschool?
We follow the Puyallup School District in calling for ‘late openings’ and ‘school closed’ days. Please see our website regarding inclement weather.

What is your sick policy?
We ask the parents to keep the children home if they have a fever or are vomiting. If a child has Strep Throat or Pink Eye, they must be on medication for at least twenty-four hours before returning to school. Other diseases may have longer ‘at home times’.

Do you give parents preschool progress reports?
We give progress reports twice a year. Parents are invited to meet with the teachers at this time, but a parent may request a conference with a teacher, or the Director, at any time.

How do you communicate with the parents?
Communication to parents comes through class newsletters, center newsletters, email, teacher communication, signs, phone calls, and letters.

How do you handle emergencies?
Our Staff is trained each year in CPR and First Aid; our Staff is trained to call 911 in a true medical or security emergency.
